ALWAYS listen to your coach, if you don’t understand what is required, ASK
ALWAYS come prepared, bring all equipment onto poolside and have it ready for action - spare goggles, hats etc.
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT ALL SWIMMERS BRING A DRINK ONTO
POOLSIDE
(minimum of 1 litre of water or diluted cordial)
EVERY skill should be the best you can do, always strive to make each one better. Think about your body position, head position, hand entry and streamlining.
EACH turn should be as fast as you would perform during competition, there is no such things as slow competition skills!ALWAYS accelerate into the approach of a turn - tuck tight, spin fast and accelerate off the wall.
EVERY finish should be a strong, fast competition finish. Challenge the person in the next lane into the wall each time.
MAKE SURE you know exactly how to swim each set - what pace, how much rest, and the turn-around time.
REMEMBER:
HEART RATE - STROKE COUNT - TARGET TIME
You need to be able to monitor your own heart rate according to
the intensity of the swim set.
Know exactly how many strokes you do on each
distance and stroke and at different speeds.
Look at the pace clock and know
in what time you finished on every repeat.
All this takes much practice and concentration but if you want to improve and be the best, you need to make the effort.
TECHNIQUE is the key element, PERFECT TECHNIQUE is the ultimate goal.
Every swimmer develops individual technique and style but the fundamentals are the same. A good coach will coach each swimmer on an individual basis when it comes to the finer points of technique at competition levels.
No two swimmers ever swim the same, everyone is different.
FOCUS on your goals and ambitions in swimming, these should be defined with your coach for your personal profile. Maintaining a vision for what you want to achieve during each training session will guarantee you put in 100% every time.
There is no excuse for poor technique, 100% effort is necessary for top performance. Any less than that and goals will NOT be achieved.
