WORCESTER COUNTY RELAYS 2009

Sunday 21 June and we’re on poolside in Wolverhampton, it’s very hot and it’s Father’s Day.  We know this one will be a tough ask because the team are missing one of the Girls age groups but there are medals up for grabs and the swimmers are going for them.

The Teams:

9/10 – Grace, Ellie C, Bethan, Jordan, Michael, Jake, Alex, Arron, Ashley

11/12 – Katie, Emma, Nat, Aimee, Becky B, Adam, Jake, George, Myles, Joe Ha

13/14 – Beth D, Sophie, Becki C, Lauren, Ellie L, Joe B, Jarrad, Tom A, Sam

15/16 – Josh, Rich, Joe H, Graham, Jack

Open – Zoe, Laura, Becky S, Becki C, Sophie, Josh, Rich, Tom B, Graham, Jack

In total there were 20 finals to swim in but you have to get through the heats and we did by the bucket load!  We made every final that we put a team forward for.  This is a tremendous team effort and all of the swimmers should be so proud of this achievement.

Now when I stand back and look at the results I am truly in awe of our swimmers – 18 finals and medals in 13 of them. When I break this down further it shows that our Girls took medals in every single final that we competed in – WOW – that is truly amazing.

Final results put Stourbridge Girls in 2nd place, the Boys were 3rd, giving us a final 2nd place result overall.

Top age group has to go to the Boys 15/16 year olds, taking Gold in both their events.  Fantastic swims and what a team – not only was it Gold all the way but they took the Championship Best Performances for both relays AND SMASHED the County Record time by 3 seconds!!  Close on their heels were the 11/12 year old Girls who took one gold and one silver.

It’s really difficult to pick out an individual swimmer from the exceptional efforts I saw today but one young man was truly outstanding and that is Joe Horne.

Thanks Team for such a tremendous effort – this was a great day with loads of bling to take home – WELL DONE!
