Many of you will have heard that Nicki Mathers was admitted to the West
Midland Hospital hospital last Thursday evening for an operation to remove two
sections of her colon which was diagnosed to be cancerous. Nicki was
typically upbeat and positive about the prognosis and was open to discussing the
situation with everyone beforehand. She wanted to attend the Diddy Final
on Saturday but felt that they wouldn’t be able to accommodate the hospital bed
and drips etc at Central Baths!
Following her operation, Nicki is
apparently doing well and the hospital staff are pleased with her progress. A
card was at Dudley LC yesterday evening for people to sign and another was in
circulation. If anyone would like to send their own card, please feel free
to do so and hand it to any Committee member for them to pass it on to
Nicki. Flowers are being sent to her from the Club and another card will
be available at the Committee meeting for Committee members to sign if they
wish.
Nicki will be pleased to learn that the B Team did really well at
the Nuneaton Diddy Final on Saturday. To start with, they won the Best
Turned Out Team Trophy and then went on to finish 3rd in the gala and 3rd in the
League. This means that the B Team has been promoted to Division 2 for
next year – a challenge, I am sure, they will rise to. Well done to all
the swimmers for an excellent performance - a fitting tribute to Nicki for the
considerable part that she has played in coaching the youngsters over the
years.
