REDDITCH GIRLS GALA – 4 OCTOBER 2008
The Girls are in action again but this time the invite was from Redditch and the venue Droitwich. A good start with a lane 4 draw and centre stage for Stourbridge. 5 teams competing so maximum is 5 points per event!
The Team:
Rosie Buswell Shannon O’Brien
Ellie Childs Sophie Page
Becki Cole Emma Pay
Beth Davis Fran Pinchin
Nat Dingley Charlotte Rowbotham
Megan Dudley Aimee Sanders
Rochelle Edwards Lauren Sanders
Becky Evans Becky Spoor
Zoe Hunter Emily Tiano
Jordan Ingamells Alicia Watton
Katie Jones Alex Westlake
Chloe Lowe Hannah Williams
Alice Maycock
The first win of the night came early in race 2 from Fran on the 100m Free. Fran had a clear lead by 50m and never let it go. A great win and so I understand, a great pb – well done Fran. 4 more wins in this quarter from our 11s and Open Medley teams and a great individual swim from Becky S on the breaststroke put us ahead by 4 points with 11 races gone.
The second and third quarters were unbelievable with Stourbridge taking 1st or 2nd place in 25 of the swims. I think a special mention must go to Nat, Katie, Becki C, Megan, Becky E, Aimee, Sophie and Charlotte for the outstanding margins by which they won their individual races. We were now in the lead by 37 points.
The Girls were not holding anything back despite it being the County Sprints the next day. Onto the last quarter and although it was coming to the end of the night we saw some outstanding performances from Beth and Lauren on the individual IM, Becky S on the fly, Hannah on the backstroke and Shannon on the free.
Our top age group of the night – the 14s, taking 100% wins in their age group. The top event – the individual IM. It’s not very often that this event appears on a programme but the results show what good all round swimmers we have.
This was an outstanding effort from all the swimmers involved and it was great to see our little ones take to the blocks and put in some amazing efforts.
The swimmer of the night was a real difficult choice – I had so many to choose from. I have to say for their outstanding contribution in their first gala, it has to be Ellie Childs and Rochelle Edwards – well done girls and thank you.
And the boys or the girls? – Oh, sorry lads, it had to be the girls this time cus you weren’t there!!!!!
The final points:
Stourbridge 202
Droitwich 153
Redditch 149
Bromsgrove 100
Evesham 95
I would like to say a special thank you to our hosts, Redditch, for an excellent evening’s entertainment. It was a great gala to be part of.
