The start of a busy weekend of swimming for the
club.A trip to Worcester for the first Round of the Diddy League,Followed by a
day out to Manchester for the World Championship Finals which was I have to say
the best sporting event I have ever seen.
If we ever get the chance again to go to this I
suggest everyone from the club goes it really was fantastic.
Back to the Diddies.
I have to say we were about to come down to earth
with a bang, the parking at Worcester is a nightmare and although I arrived at
5.00pm there was only one space on the car park as Worcester B team had left all
their cars there and gone somewhere else by coach.
The opposition was very strong too and included
last years eventual winners Northampton.Worcester A,Wyre Forest,Camp Hill and
Ludlow were the other teams so I was hoping we could come 3rd.
This I am afraid was not to be. Two 1st places and
nine 2nd places really was quite poor.I was somewhat concerned that even in the
8x1 relays which are supposed to be the best two from each age group boys and
girls and the final cannon which is mixed best boy and girl we swam well but
were well off the pace set by the eventual winners. The girls managed 3rd the
boys were last and the cannon was 5th.this was quite a shock for me as I thought
we would be fine and at least in the top three here.
This is why we are so careful when putting the
swimmers in the right teams and sometimes letting the best in each age group
swim twice. We really will have to work hard for the next round which is at
Halesowen against Halesowen in a long pool.Everyone in both teams should be with
Becky at P.T.C on a Monday night so that we can make sure everyone can start
from a dive .This is absolutely crucial you loose so much distance before you
start.Turns and finishes also need a little work too.On the positive side though
there were no D.Q.s in any of the relay takeovers.Just one in fact which was
poor Tom who lost his goggles before his swim and quickly borrowed
someone's,unfortunately they came off at the start and he missed the wall on his
turn as he could not see.To his credit he continued to swim and finish even
though he knew he would be disqualified. For this reason I let him off with out
any stick.I am sure it will not happen again.
I would normally give a bit of a breakdown of the
points at certain stages but we were in forth place from start to finish and
really never challenged for third.
Final points were.
Northampton 244
Worcester A 209
Wyre Forest 194
Stourbridge 171
Ludlow 133
Camp Hill 103
Not to good this time and some big changes required
for the next round too.The majority of our older swimmers were well off the pace
for some reason take a look through the programme to see where you
finished.
Swimmers of the night a split decision between Nat
Dingley and Adam Horton. Our only winners on the night.
Team of the night I will give this to the nines as
they tried their best and were excellent on poolside.Well done to you all
Ethan,Tom,Michael,Ashley,Olivia,Alex,Jordan and Lily.
Thanks to my helpers.
Lets work hard now before the next round and see if
we can perform better at our great rivals pool in a couple of weeks
