Cycle 1 – Target Open Meet.
The 1st target open for the season was to be a great success for the club. We travelled down to Nuneaton for their winter 200m and 400m event. As a major open for the region a number of squads were in attendance which raised the level of competition to a very high level, as City of Birmingham, City of Leicester and others were there. Being the 1st targeted meet of the season the pressure was on to perform and with the swimmers all training very hard over the winter I hoped for some fantastic times and that’s exactly what I got. Our entire team performed exceptionally well smashing personal best times many by over 5 seconds, which for senior swimmers is quite astonishing! Not to be outdone the juniors were up in force again getting some very fast times and great PB’s with a number more than 20 seconds! Special mention must go to 9yr old Katie Jones (who had to swim as a 9/10). She performed exceptionally well getting PB’s across strokes with 1 PB of 27 seconds and finishing very high in the results even swimming against the 10 yr olds! FANTASTIC!
Even with the competition a number of medals were achieved by: Anthony Parkes (Gold 200m BK, Silver 200m IM, Silver 200m FC & Bronze for 400m IM) and Phil Harrington (Silver 200m BRST & Silver 200m FC).
Many swimmers just missed out the top 3 placing’s.
It was a great start to the season for the swimmers and now I look forward to the counties where I expect an equally stunning performance.
Well done to everyone
