NUNEATON OPEN 4/5TH APRIL 2008
31 Stourbridge swimmers took to the water at the Nuneaton and Bedworth April Qualifying Open Meet 2008 at the Pingles Pool. The pool has a reputation for producing fast times so expectations were high and we weren’t disappointed (although we were snowed in on the Sunday!).
There were some fantastic swims with numerous pbs. Top 6 places going to Joe Birnie, Graham Harrington, Lisa Henderson, Adam Horton, Ste Nock and Alex Thom.
Emma Pay put in some outstanding swims all weekend to take the highest medal total for the Club and narrowly missing out on a couple more. Her pbs were fantastic so very well done Emma (and what a very proud Dad on the poolside!).
Phil Harrington did the double on the 100m and 200m Breaststroke, taking gold medal in both events. Becki Cole followed suit on the 100m and 200m Backstroke, with double top and two well deserved golds.
Joe Horne put in a superb swim to take the silver medal in the 100m backstroke. Not to be outdone, Richard Spoor stormed to silver on the 200m IM with Sam Tromans “flying” up the pool for the silver medal on the 100m butterfly.
Bronze medals went to Jack Henderson in the 200m IM, Charlotte Rowbotham on 100m breaststroke, Sam Rowbotham on the 200m IM and Becky Spoor on the 200m butterfly.
Many of our swimmers achieved District qualifying times, with others so close it was heartbreaking to watch.
A tough weekend in terms of the standard of swimmers at the Open Meet but yet again the Stourbridge swimmers were up for the challenge. Well done to you all.
