Ding, Ding – Round 1 and boy did we come out fighting!!
The first 10 events saw us take 57 of the possible 60 points – I couldn’t have asked for a better start. The clear winning margins in this section came from Jack with a 4 second lead, Katie with a 5 second lead and the Mixed 15s Medley Team with a 4 second lead.
Now the rest of the swimmers really had something to live up to! If you thought the first 10 were good, the next 10 were even better – 58 out of the possible 60 points in this section, giving us a 35 point lead at the half way stage. Exceptional winning margins came from Nat (7.5 seconds clear); Tom Mc (8 seconds clear); and Aaron (7.5 seconds clear). In Aaron’s case this was just amazing to build up such a lead over 50m – well done Aaron.
And it just kept coming. Races 21 to 30 saw another 53 points on the board, extending our lead to 44 points. Joe had a very convincing win with an 8 second clear margin over 2nd place, again over only a 50m swim – this was exceptional Joe. Ellie L saw off her opposition with a 6.5 second clear margin and the Mixed 13s Medley team had 5 seconds of clear water on their win. Race 28, the Boys Open Freestyle took several minutes for the judges to decide. There was much debate, with only 0.4 separating 1st and 3rd places. The final call went to the Hereford swimmer but Graham that was a great swim!
The final 10 races saw Aaron taking his 2nd exceptional swim of the night with a clear 4.5 seconds over the opposition; Becki C powered to a 6 second win and the last individual swim of the night saw Rich take an amazing 9 second win over the 2nd place swimmer – poetry in motion Rich – fantastic!
Before I give you the final scores, just a bit of information for you:
· We took 95% of the maximum points on offer for the whole of the gala
· We took 100% of the points on offer for the relays
· Our 11 Boys, 13 Girls and 15 Girls did not drop a point all night
· Over 60% of our swimmers took maximum points from their swims
· The Boys took either 1st or 2nd place in all of their races
Now that’s something to be really proud of!
So the final scores were:
Stourbridge A 227 points
Hereford 162 points
Worcester 162 points
Orion 139 points
Broadway 96 points
Stroke of the night came from our Fly swimmers, taking an amazing 7 1st places from a potential 8 swims.
Swimmer of the night – how do I decide this one? Well I just couldn’t. Kids you were all just amazing. Well done to all of you and thank you for such a tremendous effort.
Team of the night is always a difficult one to chose so I’m going to take the easy option – it’s Stourbridge A. You were tremendous all night!
In terms of the boys or girls – oh YES, it’s the boys again!!! Twice on the trot now – come on!!
Now my team would not be complete without the helpers and officials that work so hard on the night. It was a real professional job from you all and I would like to say a very big thank you for your tremendous efforts to ensure the gala ran like clockwork.
What a night, WHAT AN EXCEPTIONAL TEAM!!!
